The UK has a large Muslim community drawn from 45 countries with a high and disproportionate level of unemployment. Whilst there is a tradition of enterprise and self-employment, studies have revealed that exclusion exists through a lack of appropriate skills, education and knowledge of business and training support services.

Previous studies have shown a 71% rate of unemployment amongst Muslims residing in the UK, of which 58% were graduates. This was due to poor access to mainstream services due to social, cultural and religious barriers as well as lack of confidence and self-esteem.
