PBM supports Holocaust Memorial Day 25/01/09

Progressive British Muslims supports Holocaust Memorial Day

Selman Ansari said:

“The 26,495 racist incidents in the UK in 2008 highlight the importance of this year's theme of Holocaust Memorial Day, Stand Up to Hatred. The disturbing legacy of the Holocaust acts as a reminder to later generations of the consequences of allowing prejudice, discrimination, and racism to foster unperturbed. Wherever such injustices are encountered action needs to be taken by all of us to ensure equality and human rights are upheld for all peoples.”

Statement on Gaza 02/01/09

"Ceasefire now", says PBM

Farmida Bi said:

“Progressive British Muslims deplore the murder of civilians in both Gaza and Israel and calls upon HAMAS and the government of Israel to agree upon a ceasefire immediately. As an organisation, we worry that the violence in this sensitive region will fuel Islamophobia and anti-Semitism in the UK, and act as a catalyst for extremism. We note the appalling failure of the White House to call for a ceasefire, and maintain the hope that President-elect Obama will make the establishment of a viable Palestinian state, his number one priority upon coming into office.”
